Our plans for Balnespick Wind Farm have been designed in response to local feedback and are focussed on delivering for the Highland economy, tourism and community.
If consented, the wind farm will generate up to 64.8MW of clean electricity and could provide power directly to Tomatin Distillery – helping the distillery to cut its energy costs, reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and increase its use of non-fossil fuels.

Fäbodliden Wind Farm is located approximately 15 km northeast of the Municipality of Vindeln with the closest villages being Risliden, Kamsjön and Buberget. The wind farm was put into operation in 2015 and consists of 24 Vestas V112 turbines with a maximum tip height of 185 m. The annual production is approximately 235 GWh which is comparable to the hydropower plant of Bjurfors with an annual production of 194 GWh.
Fred. Olsen Renewables has eight employees responsible for the day-to-day operation of Fäbodliden I and II and in part also Högaliden. Snow clearing and road maintenance are managed by a local company.
Each year the company in cooperation with the municipality of Vindeln allocate an amount of money for the benefit of the local community. Organisations may apply for funding and one-off events and proximity to the wind farm are favoured.

Projects typically supported are renovation of community halls, sports and youth activities, wind protection and barbecue areas.
An extension to the wind farm of additional four wind turbines - Fäbodliden II - became operational in 2023.
